BUSINESS-PEOPLE RESEARCH. Results 2011/2012

In the times of crisis managers find themselves facing new questions and challenges. For numerous firms, handling those will decide about survival and real potential of the given business for generating growth.

“In which direction are business and human resource management in Poland heading”, asked the company Executive in the research carried out among those performing executive roles in businesses and managing large teams (executive personnel). The owners of firms, CEOs, members of a board and directors of such key functions as sales or production participated in the research Business People™ 2011. We have inquired the executives of such businesses and institutions as Alior Bank, AWD, Foundation of Local Democracy Development, GeoPost, Invest Bank, Kogeneracja, PAP, PSE Operator, Real, Symantec or Tauron (Energia Pro).

The goal of the research was to identify current trends and positive practices on the Polish market in managing businesses and human resources related to growth of the brands, firms and markets.
The research Executive Business – People™ has revealed numerous trends, some of the most interesting ones are:

– Executive personnel was identified to have unique leadership competencies, which they were not entirely aware of; as a result, such competencies are not being developed among subordinate managerial levels.

– Brand and business tactics are coherent with the brand of the employer and the tactics of human resource management in companies of the financial sector. The situation appears to be different in case of companies from other sectors where the two areas tend to be managed incoherently.

– The trustworthiness of the firm is built through market brand and charisma of the executive. Few companies build trustworthiness through planned actions related to labour market. Thought-through practice in this area was noted in case of the Scandinavian firms.

– Personal and labour procedures practised in numerous companies appear to be a norm. It is surprising though that large number of enterprises remains outside mainstream management and do not evoke expected behaviour among the managerial personnel.

– Firms and their directors have developed collection of tactics and rituals of human resource management. Yet, a long-term employer or human resource management concepts are rarely observed.

The research Business People™ was carried out as structured survey based on an original “Six C’s” approach of the company Executive. The model defines cascade approach to managing business and employees. Key elements of this approach are Control, Concept, Construction, Competence, Commitment and Culture/Communication. Due to present economic and market situation, the research was enriched with a seventh “C” – Crisis.

The research was carried out by Senior Experts of Executive, individuals with longstanding experience in business management, consulting and development of executive personnel.
